Ancient Greece is soooooooooooo interseting! The whole thing plays out like one huge excellent movie! Philip II of Macedonia was a great conqeurer. His tactics were amazing! In the beginning he was a hostage of Thebes. Soon he learned to love Greek culture, but hate it's corrupted governments. He thought that it was his destiny to conquer Greec, and unite it.First he gave lots of gold to each of the city-states, and flattered them and made each think that he was on their side. Meanwhile, Philip created a huge army, and created war tactics that had never been seen before. Then he spurred arguments between the city-states, making each of them wage war against each other. Only Demosthenes, a poor orator, knew what Philip was up to. He spoke out about it publicly, but no one listened, they thought Philip would come and help them out. They soon were reduced to shambles. They each expected for Philip to come and help them, but then Philip took his huge army and marched on Greece. A small army of Athenians and Thebesmen stood to protect their homes, but Philip won. Later he was in the middle of preparing for a campaign to Persia, but was assasinated by an unknown person. Then his son Alexander the Great took his father's thrown at age 20.
